Happy Bloomsday

Sketch of Mister Bloom by James Joyce

In honour of Bloomsday, here’s a sketch of Mister Bloom by James Joyce.

The writing is the opening passage of Homer’s Odyssey (with a few minor errors): ‘Tell me, muse, of that man of many turns, who wandered far and wide.’

Mister Bloom, one of the principal characters in Joyce’s Ulysses, is about as close as the word gets to being made flesh.

RTE, Ireland’s national broadcaster, has a nice audio tribute to Bloomsdays past.
